Inside Line tests the BLS

April 25, 2006 - 9:29 am

BLSEdmunds’ Inside Line has had a chance to drive Cadillac’s new BLS sedan that recently went on sale in Europe.

Just for those of you not paying attention, the BLS is built alongside the Saab 9-3 and is a front-drive model equiped with either 4-cylinder gas or diesel engines or a turbo version of the same 2.8l engine that powers the base CTS.

While the writer was impressed with Cadillac’s ability to take the same Epsilon chassis that underpins the 9-3 and making it uniquely Cadillac, he was less impressed with the interior and driving dynamics – especially against the entry level competition from BMW, Audi, Mercedes, etc.

Check out the review over at Inside Line.

What’s wrong with this picture

April 25, 2006 - 9:10 am

Something hasn’t seemed right to me since the spy photos surfaced a few days ago of the next CTS undergoing testing. Now I think I know why.

Is this not the next CTS? No, definitely not. Is Cadillac going the wrong direction stylistically – I don’t think so. What had me puzzled was the fact that the camo does absolutely nothing to actually disguise the car. Come on, camo that leaves the entire grill, headlights, and fog lights easily identifiable? I don’t think so.

My guess? This is a play by Cadillac, in the same vein as Audi plays the spy photographers with barely covered cars to generate buzz for their products. I think they are putting a lightly disguised car out with the express purpose of getting the photos taken and published.

Also, you might notice that this car has different lighting than the mock-up shown on 60 Minutes…it could be that this is not the final product, that the mock-up is of yet another, but related, product, or that the styling studio car was just the inspiration for the next CTS.

Only time, and further leaked info, will tell.

More spy photos over at Edmunds.

2008 CTS spy photos

April 20, 2006 - 7:38 pm

The Car Connection is showing spy photos that confirm that the mock-up Bob Lutz previewed on CBS’ 60 Minutes is actually the new CTS. Through this modest disguise, you can see many of the cues that were clearly shown on 60 Minutes.

It is obvious that this is not the exact car shown in the rear-views in the Cadillac styling studio – further suggesting that that car may have been a rumored coupe version of the CTS.

With more in-your-face styling than the current CTS it should be a worthy successor.

Helping out our friends - Sky MSRP list

April 18, 2006 - 6:26 am

Sky Red LineYou may notice something a bit odd in the links at the top of the Caddy Edge pages. Links to some Saturn Sky info.

Well, the Sky is another car that your humble webmaster is quite fond of (and has some of that Cadillac edgy-ness as well). It appears that there is a need for a clearing-house of information for folks looking for a Saturn dealer that isn’t trying to pad their MSRP by adding required options, etc.

So, I’m adding a couple pages to the Caddy Edge for a while in order for folks to be able to better find the dealers who are ‘doing it right’ and sticking to the Saturn way of doing business.

If any of our faithful Caddy fans are also Sky fans – be sure to drop me a line and let me know what is up with your local dealer.

Details of the info we’re looking for is on the Saturn Sky MSRP Page.
