In 1954, a group of guys from Colorado, led by Keith Andrews and Blu Plemons and with the help of Barry Motor Sales campaigned and very nearly won the Carrera Panamericana Mexican road race. Their little team of 5 nearly upset the competing team from Lincoln with their 4 cars, and over 30 support staff.
Today, Cadillac rolled out a reconditioned 1954 Cadillac Series 62 coupe, visually identical to the one campaigned by Andrews and Plemons to honor their achievement.
Cadillac plans to campaign the recreation in this fall’s running of the Carrera Panamericana.
And now, the press release:

The good folks over at Digital Corvettes have posted some spy shots of a supercharged V-8 that is undergoing testing at an undisclosed facility up near GM-land. Their initial guess was that this was the upcoming LS9 engine that is expected to put out upwards of 650hp in the new Corvette Sting Ray.
However, after a bit of analysis, the folks there have identified this engine as a 500hp+ truck version of the 6.2l V-8 destined for duty in a high-performance version of the Escalade.
Cadillac has previously stated that there will be no V-series SUV’s…maybe this might be evidence of a shift from that policy or perhaps SUV’s will just get a different moniker for their hi-po versions.
Take a look at the rest of the pics here:

GM announced today that they would be transferring their Cadillac advertising account (and its annual $225 Million budget) from Leo Burnett Detroit to Modernista.
It is suggested that Leo Burnett Detroit lost the bulk of the Cadillac account due to their lackluster Super Bowl ads for Cadillac and the new 2007 Escalade.
Leo Burnett Detroit will continue to be the ad agency for GM Service and Parts as well as Pontiac. Effective July 1, LBD will gain some responsibility for local dealer advertising for Saab, Hummer, and Cadillac.
Modernista has done quite well for GM in the past as the ad agency for the Hummer brand.

GMInsideNews.com has a posting with this peak at the interior of the new CTS.
It looks like what we expected – the interior styling mock-up shown on 60 Minutes is the new CTS’ interior.
You can also see in the larger pic in the thread over at their site that this particular CTS is scooting around with a manual transmission. Thank heavens that GM is seeing fit to keep the CTS positioned as a true 3-series, et. al. competitor with regard to transmission offerings – even if very few Americans choose that option.
We are still looking forward to a world debut of the new CTS in January at the NAIAS in Detroit.

Not exactly renown for their expertise in all things automotive – electronics and computer review site, C|Net.com has decided to jump into the car review market.
Having watched a few of their televised auto reviews downloaded by my Tivo – I can attest that they likely know a lot more about computers and electronics than cars – but, at least
tend to limit themselves to the interior environment, features, and ways that cars integrate into our ‘digital lives’.
This week, they take a look at the new 2007 Escalade.
Likes – styling and interior electronics
Dislikes – fuel economy, weight, lack of bluetooth (they also take a cheap shot at the ‘low-tech’ V-8 simply because it lacks overhead cams, discounting its variable valve timing and other high-tech features. Apparently the Infiniti 5.6l V-8 with 315hp is automatically more ‘efficient’ than the 6.2l V-8 in the Escalade with its 403hp due to its overhead cams)
Overall, they gave it a 7.0/10 rating.

WorldCarFans is running yet another spy shot of the new 2008 CTS. In this pic, instead of baggy vinyl camo, we have black and white pattern camo.
You can see that the new CTS is going to have quite a stance with a muscular presence.
Now, if the interior is as nice as we’re expecting…than this CTS could be the best one yet.
