Spy video of new CTS

August 25, 2006 - 7:14 am

Edmunds 08 CTS GrillEdmunds’ Inside Line site has some new spy photos and an exclusive spy video of the new CTS undergoing hot-weather testing with some of its expected competition (interestingly, BMW’s previous 5-series and the Infiniti M-class were in the group of cars shown in the video).

Edmunds conjectures that the CTS will have the 3.6l from the current CTS bumped to 280hp. It seems they missed the announcement from GM some time ago about the high-feature V-6 family getting direct injection soon – which would put the new CTS in the 300hp range (though this engine might not debut until the couple model comes out a year later).

As we’ve been saying for some time, expect the new CTS to debut in January at the Detroit Auto Show.

Product placement done right - Cadillac Escalade

August 22, 2006 - 8:39 am

07EscaladeGrillYou’ve seen it before in movies and TV, the blatant placement of a product logo so obviously out of place that you know that money changed hands to get it into the shot.

Over at MediaPost, they have an interesting review of the placement of a Cadillac Escalade in the August 8th episode of FX’s Rescue Me where the placement makes sense as the big SUV is actually written into the storyline.

The only mistake seems to be that they keep referring to it having a V-10 (don’t we all wish).

Inside Line - Cadillac’s product plans

August 22, 2006 - 6:32 am

Edmunds Inside Line got a chance to talk to Cadillac General Manager Jim Taylor about Cadillac’s future product plans.

It appears that work is progressing on both a sub-SRX crossover SUV (tentatively referred to as the BRX) as well as a 2nd gen BLS that just might be made available in the US. (Autoweek is also reporting on this story and say that the BLS has been eliminated from the future US product mix due to how close its price would come to the CTS though Inside Line only says that the BLS will come here if the price is right).

Expect that the 2nd Generation BLS will have available all-wheel drive for the first time and that a US version would almost certainly come standard with this drivetrain as well as a 2.8l VVT V-6.

New Cadillac Ads online

August 15, 2006 - 10:26 am

Cadillac CrestCadillac has posted a new micro-site with wallpapers and commercials from the new Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit campaign.

Also, check out the ‘behind the scenes’ video that talks about the ‘Crest’ ad that shows a jeweler making a Cadillac Crest badge (I am expecting e-mails now from people asking ‘are Cadillac badges really made of jewels and precious metals? – um, no.)

It certainly appears that Modernista is going with the whole touchy-feely angle on the history and heritage of Cadillac. Only time will tell if this will work to reach additional customers for Cadillac.
