Today’s news about future Cadillac product

July 30, 2007 - 9:25 am

Automotive News has managed to get a lot of auto blogs buzzing about the future of Cadillac.

Cadillac CrestThey are repeating what has been said for a while that a new small, rear-drive sedan is on the way, a small SUV is coming too (BRX), that the SRX is likely to be dropped, the DTS/STS are going to be merged.

However, they really botch their projected new lineup by saying the STS/DTS replacement will compete against the 5-series. This doesn’t make a lick of sense since rumors up to this point all point to the CTS moving up-market, the alpha-based BLS taking the CTS’ place as the 3-series competitor, and the STS/DTS replacement going after the BMW 7-series/Mercedes S-Class.

At this point, I think the only real question is if the SRX will get a more SUV-esque replacement with the CTS wagon taking the car-like, mid-sized utility segment or if the SRX will just go away altogether.

We should start to get some more concrete news out of Cadillac in the next year or so (since the rumored product should debut as 2010-2012 model year.

Autoweek’s first drive of the 2008 CTS

July 27, 2007 - 2:15 pm

Yep, yet another magazine that got flown to Germany to test the new CTS. Not that I’m sore about it or anything. ;-)

08 CTSThey start out giving the historical significance for the original CTS and how it actually, at its peak, outsold all its competition except the BMW 3-series (a pretty significant tidbit I didn’t know until now) and how the new car is significantly better than before and easily the equal of all the competition.

Yet more confirmation of what we already knew – the new CTS rocks!

Edmunds Inside Line first drive of the 2008 CTS

08 CTSThis is starting to get repetitive…

Edmunds was also invited to Germany to try out the new CTS and walked away impressed.

They found the steering to be touch light and the manual transmission’s shift throws a bit long, but otherwise thought the car was a large step forward and certainly capable on the Nürburgring.

Car and Driver first drive of the 2008 CTS

Despite CnD’s failure in their earlier article about the future plans of Cadillac…they do have some very nice things to say about the latest addition to the Cadillac stable.

08 CTSThere were specifically impressed by GM’s choice to put high-end sportscar grade tires on the new CTS (at least with the summer tire sport package), its 5.8 second 0-60 time, and the overall integration of the package that points to GM and Cadillac finally being ready to play in big leagues with no apologies needed.

Is anyone else starting to feel that new car fever taking hold?

Winding Road first drive of the 2008 CTS

July 26, 2007 - 5:21 pm

Today appears to be the day for CTS first drive articles.

Over at Winding Road, they have a several page article in their latest online issue (download the issue for free – find the CTS article on page 40)

Of note and quite telling is this statement in the last paragraph…”Best American Sedan”.

Way to go Cadillac!
