As you could tell from our 2008 CTS Review posts – I took quite a few pictures of the new CTS while it was in my care.

Oh, how the times have changed. It really wasn’t that long ago that a credible luxury/sports-sedan could get by with great handling, world-class powertrain, and crystal-clear audio from a multi-CD changer (in-dash would be really trick) with steering-wheel mounted controls. Cadillac at the time raised the bar with their OnStar ‘telematics’ system that provided such slick features as airbag deployment notification (calling the authorities for you) and nice features like door unlocking.

But, when Cadillac announced the packages available on the CTS – it was obvious that the status quo had moved up several rungs in just the 5 years since the initial CTS’ release.

Entertainment
tce CTS Center StackStandard on the base CTS is a Bose, 8-speaker, AM/FM/CD/MP3 (meaning it can read MP3s off of a data CD) system with XM satellite radio and 3-months of complimentary service. OnStar has been upgraded to include 1 year of complimentary service as well as their ‘turn-by-turn’ feature that allows you to call the OnStar operator, give them your destination, and then the turns will be called out to you by the stereo as you drive.

But, I think it will be hard to find a CTS so equipped given the juicy systems available for a few (thousand) dollars more.

2008 CTS makes Car and Driver’s 10 Best list

November 30, 2007 - 9:48 am

The awards keep pouring in.

Not that many days ago, Motor Trend named the CTS their ‘Car of the Year’.

Car and Driver LogoNow, Car and Driver has honored the new CTS as one of the 10 Best Cars.

From C&D’s criteria:

We judge each car in three general areas, the first being how well the vehicle performs its intended functions. We expect sports cars to be fast and exhilarating, whereas we presume a family sedan will be frugal and practical. Second, we show a preference for the more engaging cars in each category, be it athletic driving manners, a seductive look, or a powerful engine sure to induce a grin every time we climb behind the wheel. Finally, we are suckers for a good deal, so an inexpensive car that’s fast, fun, and practical will certainly rise to the top of our list.

Significantly, the BMW 3-Series, a perennial 10 best winner, is also on the list. So C&D felt good enough about both to let both on the list together.

BRX Speculation

November 27, 2007 - 8:00 pm

2009 Cadillac BRXConsumer Auto Guide is known for their low-budget magazines showing ‘spy shots’ and lousy sketches has an interesting page with a not-awful computer rendering of what the new BRX might look like (though it is obviously an STS front end grafted onto a Pontiac Torrent body).

CTS Wagon to debut at Detroit Auto Show?

November 27, 2007 - 4:44 pm

WorldCarFans.com is reporting that there is a good chance we’ll see our first variant of the CTS at this January’s Detroit Auto Show.

They expect the CTS wagon (CTW?) to show up at Detroit and then make it’s Euro debut at the Geneva show in March. They also expect the coupe (CTC?) to show up at a later show.

Personally, we’d expect the more US-centric coupe to debut in Detroit with the Euro-intended wagon to not bow until Geneva.
