CTS Coupe caught testing - center exhaust is a go!

Car and Driver - CTS Coupe Exhaust

Car and Driver (my personal favorite in-print car mag) has caught GM testing the production CTS coupe.

Car and Driver - CTS Coupe SideOf interest, a rear window easily as close to horizontal as the concept, the center mounted exhaust is still there, the body work below the door appears to be spot-on, and the wheels look to be heavily inspired by those on the coupe concept as well.

Differences we can see already are slightly beefier side mirrors, the style of the exhaust goes from over/under to side-by-side, and we should expect the bumper detail beside those exhaust tips to be different than the very concept-y details on the car we saw in Detroit.

Car and Driver - CTS Coupe WheelUnknown is how faithfully they have done the tail light treatment and the overall rakish-ness of the trunk-lid (the disguise makes the production car appear to have a more upright decklid – but that could be part of the disguise.

I, personally, can’t wait to get my hands on one of these – but am awfully afraid I will leave the dealer with one once I do.

Cadillac, make mine 3.6l DI w/ 6-speed manual, in Black Raven or Crystal Red…

Right-hand drive STS goes on sale in UK

February 28, 2008 - 3:30 pm

Since our friends in the UK still insist on driving on the ‘wrong’ side of the road…it makes selling US built cars there difficult.

08 STSHowever, Cadillac’s commitment to their market has lead them to make ‘right-hand drive’ versions of all their sedans – the final one to make the switch is the STS. Now, all the Cadillac sedans (STS, CTS, BLS) aren’t being handicapped by requiring UK buyers to drive on what they think of as the ‘wrong’ side of the car.

This should help boost sales and ultimately get Cadillac closer to their European sales goals.

CTS Coupe Designer video

February 26, 2008 - 1:01 pm

Another YouTube find is this video of John Manoogian, Cadillac’s Exterior Design Director describing the work that culminated in the CTS Coupe concept.

Interestingly, he suggests that Cadillac is considering actually going with the concept’s center exhaust treatment on the production coupe.

Enjoy

CTS-V Promo Video

February 26, 2008 - 6:42 am

It appears GM has decided to put out the 2009 CTS-V intro video on YouTube.

This 2-minute segment shows the CTS-V on the track with text blurbs about its capabilities and technology interspersed.

Enjoy.

Cadillac head practically confirms production Provoq (and alternative fuel Cadillacs)

February 25, 2008 - 2:19 pm

Automotive News has interviews Cadillac General Manager Jim Taylor about the future plans of the brand.

In response to a question about what he sees missing from Cadillac’s lineup:

Taylor: We gave you an indication of that with the Provoq model. The entry-level crossover is a space where everyone is headed. We have our SRX to cover the top end, but we don’t have the lower end covered. That is the product we’d like to have as soon as possible to attack what is the highest growth space and what could one day be the highest volume.

This is surprising on the one hand in suggesting that the SRX may stick around post-BTX but does confirm that the Provoq hints strongly that the small cross-over is on its way.

He also talked about E85 versions of the Escalade coming soon as well as confirming that future GM fuel-cell cars will be branded Cadillac first (much like the E-Flex/fuel-cell Provoq concept).

Finally, we have some sense of the pricing of the sub-CTS sedan based on GM’s new rear-drive Alpha architecture in his statements that a $25-30k Cadillac now seems to make sense, especially as the CTS moves up-market.
