Will it never end? V-12 cancelled

September 11, 2008 - 5:24 am

I don’t know if this is surprising in the least, but the latest news is that Cadillac has quietly killed their plan to bring out a V-12 engine for their super-sedan.

SixteenGiven that they have already shelved the Northstar’s replacement, are getting V-8 levels of power from normally aspirated V-6’s with direct injection – it isn’t much of a stretch to imagine a dual-turbo DI V-6 putting out V-12 humbling power for the upcoming DTS/STS replacement (once that program gets back into gear).

Personally, I can’t see a downside to lighter, and therefore lighter on their feet, Cadillacs that sip fuel and provide all the power and luxury we’ve come to expect.

Bring it on!

Escalade to go Lambda

September 10, 2008 - 12:10 pm

You may have noticed, the automotive press has seemed to discover something we have mentioned in the past, Cadillac will very likely move the Escalade to thier Lambda architecture for the next generation.

As big as the current Escalade but hundreds of pounds lighter, the new Escalade would be able to give similar performance with smaller, more fuel efficient engines – though a V-8 will likely debut in the Lambda in the Cadillac version.

Expect completely unique sheetmetal, interior, as well as hybrid-drive versions to ensure that the Escalade maintains the image GM has worked so hard to give it over the years.

Interestingly, Cadillac is rumored to be working on a truck version of Lambda so that they can continue to offer the EXT version of the Escalade.

CTS Coupe spied naked

September 8, 2008 - 11:01 pm

CTS CoupeWith an on-sale date at least half a year out, Cadillac has gotten oddly lax in hiding the upcoming CTS Coupe. WorldCarFans caught this practically undisguised coupe recently undergoing testing.

Differing from the concept in only minor ways, we can now be sure that the production car will easily be as good looking as the concept.

Expect to see coupes at your local dealer in June 2009.
