Cadillac Converj

Update 2: Press photos of the Converj reveal at the NAIAS in the Converj Image Gallery

Cadillac ConverjIt was confirmed this morning at GM’s North American International Auto Show press conference that Cadillac has a version of the Chevy Volt architecture in their Converj concept coupe.

Putting the Volt’s electric powertrain (now branded ‘Voltec’) into a Cadillac 4-passenger coupe, smaller in size than the CTS coupe, the Converj has the same 40-mile electric-only range before engaging the 4-cylinder ‘range extender’ engine.

In addition to Volt’s basic drivetrain, the Converj does bring Cadillac levels of technology and luxury to the party with magnetic ride control, all-glass roof with solar cells, silk headliner, leather seating, wool carpeting, aluminum and wood dash accents, organic LED dash graphics, and standard Navigation system w/ touch controls.

As expected, the size and styling of the Converj likely preview a sub-CTS sized model to come (perhaps even with available Voltec powertain).

Detroit preview - Cadillac concept

January 9, 2009 - 6:57 pm

Rumors have started flying today of a Cadillac concept coupe that will see its debut this weekend at the Detroit autoshow.

The car is significant in a couple of ways:

1. It is expected to preview the size and styling of the BLS replacement built on the new Alpha rear-drive chassis.
2. It is also expected to pack a version of GM’s E-Flex series hybrid powertrain (like the Chevy Volt and the previous Cadillac Provoq concept).

Either way you look at it – this will be a very significant concept from Cadillac if the rumors end up being true.

Stand by for Cadillac’s press conference likely during GM’s 10am EST conference on Sunday.

New 2010 SRX Details

January 5, 2009 - 6:17 pm

Cadillac revealed details on their new 2010 SRX crossover today.

We’ve already seen the exterior styling (previewed in the Provoq concept). Surprises are limited to powertrains – which instead of the expected 3.0 and 3.6l Direct Injection V-6 engines, Cadillac has thrown us a curve inspired by a move to more fuel efficient powertrains with a base 3.0 DI V-6 and an up-level 2.8l DI turbo V-6. Both should offer high-20’s fuel efficiency in the SRX when it goes on sale in the second quarter of 2009.

The 3.0 DI puts out 260hp – in line with the previous non-DI 3.6. The 2.8 turbo puts out 300hp, similar to the current non-turbo 3.6 DI.
