Something hasn’t seemed right to me since the spy photos surfaced a few days ago of the next CTS undergoing testing. Now I think I know why.
Is this not the next CTS? No, definitely not. Is Cadillac going the wrong direction stylistically – I don’t think so. What had me puzzled was the fact that the camo does absolutely nothing to actually disguise the car. Come on, camo that leaves the entire grill, headlights, and fog lights easily identifiable? I don’t think so.
My guess? This is a play by Cadillac, in the same vein as Audi plays the spy photographers with barely covered cars to generate buzz for their products. I think they are putting a lightly disguised car out with the express purpose of getting the photos taken and published.
Also, you might notice that this car has different lighting than the mock-up shown on 60 Minutes…it could be that this is not the final product, that the mock-up is of yet another, but related, product, or that the styling studio car was just the inspiration for the next CTS.
Only time, and further leaked info, will tell.
More spy photos over at Edmunds.

You may notice something a bit odd in the links at the top of the Caddy Edge pages. Links to some Saturn Sky info.
Well, the Sky is another car that your humble webmaster is quite fond of (and has some of that Cadillac edgy-ness as well). It appears that there is a need for a clearing-house of information for folks looking for a Saturn dealer that isn’t trying to pad their MSRP by adding required options, etc.
So, I’m adding a couple pages to the Caddy Edge for a while in order for folks to be able to better find the dealers who are ‘doing it right’ and sticking to the Saturn way of doing business.
If any of our faithful Caddy fans are also Sky fans – be sure to drop me a line and let me know what is up with your local dealer.
Details of the info we’re looking for is on the Saturn Sky MSRP Page.

At the 2006 NAIAS, GM announced the Tahoe Hybrid and confirmed the system would make it to the Escalade line in the 2008 model year.
The Escalade with have GM’s new dual-mode hybrid powertrain with electric motors that can provide assist at any speed. Fuel economy benefits are expected to be 25% over the conventional model (which is rated at 21MPG highway) so expect an Escalade that gets aproximately 25MPG.
No word yet on if this hybrid Escalade will be available in all versions (EXT, ESV, and standard Escalade). We’ll post more as the details are released.

This is a topic that I’m sure has been beaten to death at GM’s Renaissance Center …how to price the new Cadillacs.
Of course, recent announcements have shown what decision has been made: Price them right in line with the targeted competition.
That’s the gamble. The stakes are Cadillac’s continued independence to pursue their new direction. Failure could mean GM management yanking them back into their old role as a Lincoln competitor (and dooming the brand to mediocrity).
The question for the rest of us, however, is

GM is serious. Serious about making Cadillac competitive with the upper-tier of luxury manufacturers. Serious about pumping up its corporate performance image with the new General Motors Performance Division.
Want to see examples of how serious they are? How about the, exclusive to Cadillac, Sigma chassis – used by the CTS, SRX, and next year’s replacement for the Seville? Incredibly rigid, easily the equal to anything ever to come from Cadillac’s claimed competition from Europe.
How about suspension engineers sending months away from friends and family
