Forbes list of top selling luxury cars

February 15, 2007 - 11:54 am

Say what you will about Forbes’ coverage of the auto industry (spotty at times) or love of lists (oh, does Forbes love its lists)...but when a brand makes the cut – people listen.

This time around, at least it isn’t a made up list of the ‘sexiest cars’ or some such. This latest list is the best selling luxury cars. Hard facts dominate – but Forbes still manages to mangle the results by making subjective decisions on what brands qualify as luxury.

Cadillac made the cut and managed to put 3 nameplates in the top 10.

The list and its 2006 sales total are listed below:

Cadillac unveils Platinum Series DTS, STS, and XLR

November 28, 2006 - 1:51 pm

STS PlatinumA day before the media days of the Los Angeles Auto Show, Cadillac announced a premium trim level of the DTS, STS, and XLR coined the ‘Platinum Series’.

As you may remember, Cadillac has shown Platinum badged Escalades in the past.

Each model is marked by dressed up interiors and other nice touches like unique wheels, paint colors, etc.

Expect to be able to pick up an XLR or STS Platinum Series early in 2007 with the DTS Platinum Series now bowing until August 2007 as a 2008 model year.

See more images of these in our image gallery.

Official pictures of the DTS-L

November 22, 2006 - 1:00 pm

DTS-L ProfileWell, it appears that rumors of the stretched DTS being called the DTS-L (rather than, a more consistent with recent product announcements, DLS) are true.

DTS-L InteriorCadillac released these two photos earlier today showing how the DTS-L has a broad C-pillar that hides rear passengers (much like in a Rolls Royce sedan) and monstrous rear-seat legroom.

More details closer to the LA auto show reveal.

Stretched DTS to debut at Los Angeles auto show

November 16, 2006 - 5:10 pm

DTSRumors broke today that Cadillac will show a stretched version of the DTS at the Los Angeles auto show. The car is expected to be 8” longer and compete directly with a similar stretched version of the Lincoln Town Car. (a standard DTS is shown here)

The extra length goes almost exclusively to the rear seat passengers and should provide incredibly luxurious levels of leg room.

It is not yet known exactly what name this car will carry (especially given the new stretched STS is badged the SLS). Rumors have the car labeled the DTS-L, but we wouldn’t bet against DLS at this point.

Consumer Reports love

November 10, 2006 - 2:01 pm

Consumer Reports, bible for folks looking for reliable products of any stripe, have put out their list of ‘Recommended’ vehicles for 2007.

This year, 3 Cadillacs have managed to make the list. The CTS, CTS-V, and the DTS.

In determining which vehicles it will recommend, Consumer Reports considers the following criteria: 1) Favorable results in the magazine’s performance tests that measure such things as ride and handling, emergency handling, braking, fit and finish, controls and displays, seat comfort, transmission, fuel economy and acceleration; 2) Average/better than average reliability in the magazine’s annual subscriber survey; and 3) Competitive safety performance based on NHTSA and IIHS test results.

Inside Line - Cadillac’s product plans

August 22, 2006 - 6:32 am

Edmunds Inside Line got a chance to talk to Cadillac General Manager Jim Taylor about Cadillac’s future product plans.

It appears that work is progressing on both a sub-SRX crossover SUV (tentatively referred to as the BRX) as well as a 2nd gen BLS that just might be made available in the US. (Autoweek is also reporting on this story and say that the BLS has been eliminated from the future US product mix due to how close its price would come to the CTS though Inside Line only says that the BLS will come here if the price is right).

Expect that the 2nd Generation BLS will have available all-wheel drive for the first time and that a US version would almost certainly come standard with this drivetrain as well as a 2.8l VVT V-6.
