Rumors have swirled for several months about the new, Theta premium-based crossover that Cadillac has been working on (and previewed with their Provoq concept earlier this year). The least known part is what the vehicle will be called.
MotorTrend started out calling the vehicle the BRX. A spied trademark filing by GM suggested that BTX might be the real name. Now, Edmunds InsideLine has found sources that suggest a name has been selected…SRX.
Given that this was to, in essence replace the SRX in the crossover space (while the new CTS wagon replaced the SRX in the sporty hauler arena) this makes a bit of sense. Conjecture that the name would change was based in the fact that the SRX has never set the sales charts on fire…though the name does have some equity, which Cadillac will capitalize on with the new truck-let.
Expect the new SRX to debut in 2009 as a 2010 model.

The good folks over at LeftlaneNews.com have put together a highly plausible sketch of the new CTS wagon that we expect to see in production next year.
With styling that would have been considered pretty outlandish until the recent CTS coupe popped up in January – this is one very sleek wagon and could actually be a success even in the wagon-averse USA.
Consider this to be the real replacement of the SRX on the sporty side, with the new BRX/BTX being the utility side of that equation.
Expect this to debut, possibly as a ‘concept’ at first, during this fall’s auto show season.

In November 2007, we drove the 2008 CTS (in 3.6l DI, All-wheel drive form) and wrote our impressions in a 4-part series.
We’re in touch with Cadillac now to see what other review vehicles might be available.
What would you, the Caddy Edge faithful, like to see reviewed next? We’d like to know just so we can make sure that, if offered a choice, that we pick the vehicles you are most interested in.
...and, just so you know, we are in line to get access to the new CTS-V and Escalade Hybrid as soon as possible.
Your thoughts?

As if we didn’t suspect this already – Automotive News is reporting an interview with Cadillac head Jim Taylor that the Provoq will see production (in gas powered form, of course) in 2009 as the spiritual successor to the SRX.
Sales goals for the new crossover (based on GM’s ‘premium Theta’ platform) are 60-70k units per year. This compares to the 20k units the SRX sells per year.
For those who liked the SRX’s sporty bent and wouldn’t be caught dead in one of these ‘crossover/SUV-ish’ things…Cadillac will have your number with the CTS sport wagon that should hit the market about the same time as the CTS coupe (i.e. 2010 model year).

GM just announced that they are recalling over 275,000 2005-2007 vehicles, including several Cadillacs.
The problem involves leaking pinion seals of the differential.
Affected are the rear (and front – in all-wheel drive vehicles) differentials of the CTS, CTS-V, SRX, STS, and STS-V.
Expect a recall notice from Cadillac if you own one of the affected models in the coming weeks.
