GM just announced that they are recalling over 275,000 2005-2007 vehicles, including several Cadillacs.
The problem involves leaking pinion seals of the differential.
Affected are the rear (and front – in all-wheel drive vehicles) differentials of the CTS, CTS-V, SRX, STS, and STS-V.
Expect a recall notice from Cadillac if you own one of the affected models in the coming weeks.

The SLS, a stretched version of the STS that was designed for the Chinese market now will have a second market to call home – the Middle East.
In the first quarter of 08, the lengthened version of the STS, with a ritzier interior than we get even in the 2008 STS and built in Shanghai, China will go on sale in several markets of the Middle East (a place where Cadillac is doing quite well already).

For those of you looking for hot-rod parts for your newer Cadillac – pickings have been quite slim for a long time (Lund being one of the rare exceptions, Mallett being another for V-Series CTS’).
Now, we have word of another player in the CTS/CTS-V; STS/STS-V; XLR/XLR-V; Escalade performance and styling game.

Jim Taylor, Cadillac General Manager, in a recent interview with Automotive News, has confirmed that GM is looking strongly at a few products that have been rumored for some time.
First of all, in response to what they are terming ‘shrinkage’ in the segments occupied by the current STS and DTS, Taylor admitted that “we don’t need two entries there anymore”. This pretty much confirms along with his later confirmation that, in AN’s words “the idea of a flagship sedan for Cadillac is still alive.”
So, expect a 7-series/S-Class competitor from Cadillac in a few years.
Also confirmed was that Cadillac is seriously looking at a sub-CTS model since the brand image of Cadillac is sufficiently strong enough now to survive a 28k+ product slotted below the CTS. This all but confirms previous rumors that a rear-drive ‘alpha’ chassis based sedan is in the works to better compete head-to-head with the 3-series BMW (leaving the CTS to go up-market toward the 5-series that it better matches, size-wise).
I, personally, would be all over a smaller Cadillac with a sportier angle than the current CTS. How about a coupe version as well?
Expect an Alpha-based car to debut early in the next decade (as a 2011-12 model).

Cadillac has done quite well in the 2008 Technology Availability Index, created by Telematics Research Group.
The index measures the availability of 32 different technology features on various cars and bands and then ranks the cars and brands appropriately (the only oddity is that all tech features are worth 1 point each, no matter the significance of the feature).
In the 2008 index, Cadillac rated second only to BMW with 97.62 (vs BMW’s normalized 100 points).
Even more interesting is that the Cadillac STS took the 2nd place for individual models (with 22 points vs the first place BMW 5-series 23 points).
