Next CTS to Have Available Twin-Turbo Engine

The next CTS, coming to us via a stretched version of the Alpha platform (that underpins the new ATS) is going to go head-to-head for once with the BMW 5-Series, Mercedes E-Class, and Audi A6. The photogs at KGP have nabbed the new car undergoing testing and have uncovered it's ATS/XTS/Cadillac User Experience rocking dash as well as a nice little tidbit...a twin-turbo V-6 powertrain. TTEngineCoverIt is likely that the new engine will slot above the current normally aspirated 3.6 DI engine and plug the gulf that exists between that engine and the fire-breathing monster that is the V-Series supercharged V-8 (lots of room between 300+ and 556hp). When you take into account that BMW has a 400hp twin-turbo V-8 in the 550i and Mercedes has 402 non-turbo V-8 in its E550, a non-V entry above the 3.6 is a no-brainer. Cadillac would have to go with a turbo V-6 given that they have no small-ish V-8 to put between the CTS' fenders since the Northstar is no longer with us and its replacement was shelved during the financial crisis. Expect the new CTS to bow as a 2014 model in the latter half of 2013. Source: InsideLine.com
