Cadillac Testing SUV to Slot Below LYRIQ
Cadillac is currently testing an electric crossover that will slot in their growing all-electric lineup just below the LYRIQ. If the LYRIQ is similar to the XT5, that would make this new, smaller crossover analogous to the XT4. We would expect a similar vehicle to go on sale under the Chevy brand as well - though the Ultium component set does mean that economies of scale come from the battery, motors, and under the skin components - so it is a little harder to call a Chevy or Buick crossover of similar size to be a true ‘platform-mate’ to this Cadillac.
Certainly this will be built on a slightly smaller version of GM’s Ultium electric platform and will be available in both one and two motor configurations (likely similar to LYRIQ’s rear or all-wheel drive versions).
We expect available Super Cruise self-driving tech and impressive power and range.
Trademark filings give us some idea on potential names…VISTIQ, LUMISTIQ, ASCENDIQ, SYMBOLIQ, and OPTIQ have all been reserved. None stand out immediately as an obvious name for this new car. We’d expect this to go on sale in late 2023 as a 2024 model at the earliest.
