Cadillac to Start Production of ELR in late 2013
Mark Reuss announced today at the SAE Convergence Conference in Detroit, Michigan, that GM will invest $35 Million in their Hamtramck assembly plant to start production of the Cadillac ELR in late 2013 (as a 2014 model). Of note was his announcement that the ELR would be shown at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit in January (previously, the ELR was through to debut in August 2013 at the Pebble Beach Concours). Hamtramck is plant that builds the Chevrolet Volt and Opel Ampera vehicles that share the ELR's platform as well as the mid-sized Chevrolet Malibu sedan. GM also recently invested in the plant to enable production of their new 2014 Chevrolet Impala large sedan. This will be the first 2-door vehicle built at Hamtramck since 1999 when the Cadillac Eldorado ended production at that facility. Source: Automotive News
