GM to Switch to more environmentally friendly refrigerant in 2013
GM has announced that they will be retiring the use of R134a refrigerant in 2013 for a new product, HFO-1234yf, supplied by Honeywell. The new refrigerant breaks down in the atmosphere in 11 days, significantly better than the 13 years of R134a. This reduces the global warming index of lost/released refrigerant by 99.7%. R134a has been in wide use in automobiles since 1994 when use of Freon (R12) was banned. Source: Leftlane News
