Cadillac ELR Spied

At the 2009 North American International Auto Show in Detroit, Michigan, Cadillac previewed their vision of what an electric car should be. Based on the platform and technology that underpins the Chevrolet Volt, the Converj was a stylish coupé that showed that a range-extended electric didn't have to be frumpy. Later on, Cadillac announced that they would be bringing the concept to the street with its name changed to ELR (a nice 3-letter Cadillac-esque name that suggests its ELectRic power train. We haven't seen anything other than press photos of the car since - until now. It is encouraging that practically none of the show-car glitz of the Converj has been lost in translation (something we would have hoped after Cadillac brought the show-car styling of the CTS coupé to the masses). It is unknown what changes to battery capacity and engine specifications we will see in the production car - but those details are sure to emerge over the course of the next year. We have heard from GM that the production ELR will debut at next year's Pebble Beach show going on-sale shortly afterwards (in conjunction with a set of expected upgrades to its Volt platform-mate.)
